Nicosia Dogathon Newsletter
01 Jan 2007

It has been some time since we were last in touch and we are sure that you would like to know what we ve been up to at the shelter this year and to what good use the money you raised at the 2006 Nicosia Dogathon has been put too!

We have had a very busy and successful year so far, having rehomed over 100 dogs since January 2006. We also feel that the Dogathon has helped to raise awareness locally about the realities of stray and abandoned dogs in Cyprus and hope that as the event gets even bigger, more people will become involved. We are getting far more calls from people bringing dogs to the shelter instead of abandoning them on the street to fend for themselves but we know that we have a lot of work still to do.

The average cost of running the shelter is approximately 15-1600 CYP a month and all is raised on donations. We are at present installing a canine bathing unit which was badly in need and will make work a lot easier, which could not have been done without your help!

We also have some great news about finding homes for some of our abandoned Cyprus dogs abroad! There is a Swedish animal welfare group who are placing stray dogs from Cyprus, mostly small terrier and poodle-like breeds, with loving homes in Sweden. It seems as though they have a shortage of smaller dogs in their dog shelters. We have also received interest in our Cyprus poodles from people in Germany and have flown several abroad to be placed in loving homes there as well!

At the moment, we are in desperate need of a new vehicle for the Nicosia Dogshelter as our present one is very old. If anyone could help in this matter we would be delighted to hear from you. And as always, donations of dog food, old carpets, blankets and towels will be put to a very good use.

That is our news so far and we will be in touch soon informing you of more of the work we are doing and we also look forward to your participation in the 4th Nicosia Dogathon, which will take place on April 21, 2007.

Thank you once again for your support!
